LINDEN &8212; With just a few days left in the qualifying period for municipal elections, two more people have put their names in the hat to serve the city for the next four years.

For the district two spot, Michael Carlise submitted his paperwork and fees this week. Carlisle is a former city councilman and currently serves as the chairman of the Marengo County E-911 board. Carlisle is employed as a fireman with the city and also at the Georgia Pacific Naheola Mill.

Incumbent William Curry qualified to run in district three. Richard Lankster is also running for the district three seat.

So far, no one has qualified for either district one or two spots, which are held by Alvin &8220;Butch&8221; King and Dennis Breckenridge.

King, who is the mayor pro-tem, has said he will not seek re-election this term. King also said if the council asked him to step in as the mayor for the remainder of the term, which was vacated upon the death of Pat Vice last month, he would accept the job but not seek any additional time in a city position.

In that mayor&8217;s race, district five councilwoman Mitzi Gates has qualified to run along with Charles Moore, a former county commissioner.

Incumbent Neal Jackson is the only person who has qualified to run for the district four seat.

The qualifying period will conclude on July 15. Elections are Aug. 26.
