LINDEN — The close of the municipal election qualification period Tuesday resulted in two candidates for Mayor of Linden and eight candidates for city council seats.

Two of the council seats, those for districts 4 and 5, resulted in the candidates being unopposed. Incumbent Neal Jackson will claim the district 4 spot, while Jan Cannon will clinch the district 5 seat.

In district 1, incumbent Dennis Breckenridge is seeking another term. His position with the council is to work closely with and report on the activities of the parks and recreation department. Melody Trice is challenging Breckenridge.

Incumbent William Curry qualified to run in district three. Richard Lankster is also running for the district three seat.

In the mayor’s race, the ballot looks set with district five councilwoman Mitzi Gates and former county commissioner Charles Moore vying for the spot.

Municipal elections will be held on Aug. 26.
