Bill Meador Jr. has announced his intent to seek the District 4 seat on the Demopolis City Council.

Meador said he wanted to be part of the city’s growth and direction.

“First and foremost, I love Demopolis, and I want to be an active part of its future,” he said. “I feel like we’ve had good representation in District 4, and I want to continue to be a strong voice and a trusted representative for our district and for all the citizens of Demopolis.”

Meador has proven his commitment to Demopolis through his active civic involvement and leadership. Since 1999 he has worked on the Christmas on the River Jingle Bell Run committee and in 2000 was chosen to serve on the Demopolis Parks and Recreation Board. He is currently serving as chairman of that board for the third year.

Meador is a graduate of Leadership Marengo Class VII and served on its steering committee. In addition, he has served on the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce board and the Community Bank board of directors in both Demopolis and Uniontown.

Because of Meador’s business background, one of his goals is working to ensure the finances of Demopolis are fiscally sound.

“In light of the current economy, we need to be prudent with our expenditures,” he said, adding his belief that it is important for the people of Demopolis to trust their representatives are making wise decisions with their tax dollars.

Meador believes another area of focus should be community and economic development. He is excited about the newly formed Marengo County Economic Development Authority and looks forward to working with them and other regional groups to promote our area to secure higher paying jobs.

“If we can attract quality industry and business to Marengo County, we can compete to get our young people to come back and live in Demopolis. Our youth are our future,” he said.

He feels strongly that our rivers, recreation facilities, tourism, healthcare and education are important and need to be developed to their fullest potential. That, in-turn, will help foster business and industrial growth.

“Demopolis has so many assets and natural resources,” he said. “They have a huge economic impact and allow us to enjoy a great quality of life here.”

Furthermore, it is Meador’s conviction that working together is crucial to achieve what is best for the city of Demopolis.

“I plan to put the city’s interests first. I think we have to go beyond district lines to get things done.”

A 20-year resident of Demopolis, Meador is married to the former Catherine Melton and has two children, Mary Catherine and William. He is a graduate of Marion Military Institute High School and Junior College and attended Troy University.

He is owner of OMNI Sports and is an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Demopolis Rotary Club.
