LINDEN — On the heels of last week’s 69-6 win over region foe A.L. Johnson, the Patriots (3-0) will welcome another regional opponent Holy Spirit to town Friday night.
“We know that was a region game that was in our way,” head coach Andro Williams said. “We know to us that behind us each every week.”
Williams said his team’s practice habits this week have indicated they should not suffer a letdown game in the fourth contest of the season.
“We just came out with attention,” senior Dante Keller said.
“We come to practice hard every week. We’ve got one goal in mind and that’s to win the region. We had a great practice on Monday and a great practice on Tuesday.”
“It’s going to be monotonous, same thing every week,” junior Gerald Bruno said of his team’s week-to-week focus. “The same thing with a better tempo every time.”
Williams said his team showed growth in the passing game last week, a development that should enhance the Patriots’ offense in the coming games.
“We picked our business up on our passing game,” Williams said. “I’m real pleased with (senior quarterback) Ajalon (Bruno). (Junior receiver) Larente (Taylor) came up with a couple big catches.”
“It’s going to make us better because folks can’t be focused on the run more,” Gerald Bruno said.
This week, Williams anticipates seeing an offense a great deal similar to the one the team faced against Cottage Hill in week one.
“They’re threat is they want to pick you apart,” Williams said of Holy Spirit. “It’s huge to (have been able to see an offense like Cottage Hill early). This is a team that’s similar to a Cottage Hill type team.”
Even though the Patriots have somewhat of an advantage in preparation for Holy Spirit, Gerald Bruno was adamant that the team’s work habits remain consistent each week.
“We come out here and we just do what we do best every time,” he said. “We get more reps every time. The more reps we get, the better we get.”
