Church Aflame World Outreach Ministries hosted a community-wide worship service on Sunday, and the turnout was tremendous, with an overflow crowd coming to it.
Richard Grecu opened the ceremony with a musical and vocal performance, and host pastor Mickey Green welcomed the audience.
Ed Rush, the minister of music at First Baptist Church of Demopolis, led an old-time gospel medley, and choirs made up of singers from churches across Demopolis sang a number of songs. Rosalyn Waldrop of First Baptist Church played the piano.
An offering was taken that will go towards several needs throughout the community and administered by the Blackbelt Christian Ministerial Association. The Rev. Frank Stiff of the Saints Tabernacle Church of God in Christ led the offertory prayer, and the combined choir sang “Lift Your Light.”
Dr. Art Luckie of the First United Methodist Church gave the Scripture reading from I Kings Chapter 18.
Dr. Allen Atkins of Fairhaven Baptist Church gave the message from that passage, speaking of how people should show their faith and proclaim it more.
Following the message, people were invited to come and speak with the ministers at the program.
Lacornia Harris of the New Aimwell Baptist Church gave the benediction.
“I thought it was wonderful,” said Terry Temple. “We really need to get together more often.”
“I thought it was awesome!” said Bertha Turner. “I think it’s really great that they are trying to combine everyone.”
