Alabama Public Television will air a special documentary, “Sucarnochee: A Revue of Alabama Music” on Monday, Oct. 24 at 9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. The show spotlights traditional music in Alabama through The Sucarnochee Revue.

“Alabama has a very rich musical tradition that is well-documented in Livingston,” said Chris Holmes, producer of the APTV documentary. “In this day of national radio conglomerates and the internet, it’s easy to forget where our music comes from. Traditional musical forms like blues, bluegrass, gospel, and country have deep roots in Alabama and reflect its values, culture, and flavor.”

“I was drawn to Jacky Jack and the Revue because the live radio show is itself a rich tradition and is how this music was broadcast and heard across the country for a large part of the history of American radio,” continued Holmes. “The Sucarnochee Revue was the perfect showcase for our featured acts in this documentary because of the natural relationship of these traditions. Music certainly knows no boundaries, but it’s important to recognize the positive role our state has played and continues to play in American culture.”

A special showing of the documentary will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17 at Bibb Graves Auditorium on the University of West Alabama campus at 6 p.m. The event is free to the public.
