New Era Cap Co. announced that it will have a toy drive on Thursday, Dec. 18, and invites the public to take part.
The toy drive and Christmas feeding are done in conjunction with the Coming Together Organization Inc., which is conducting its 17th annual Christmas feeding and Give a Child a Wish Project.
This Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., New Era will collect donated toys at its plant on South Cedar Avenue. There will be a live remote simulcast by WINL (98.5 FM) and WZNJ (106.5 FM).
People are invited to stop by the New Era plant at that time and donate toys to go to about 200 giftless children on Christmas Day.
“We will give the toys on Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Demopolis project’s recreation center,” said plant manager Ken Upshaw.
New Era also plans to give away 650 baseball caps to those who donate.
The Christmas feeding will provide Christmas dinners to about 500 people in need. The feeding will take place at Kora’s Place restaurant on U.S. Highway 43 South.
“We did something similar with New Era earlier this year with school supplies,” said Sean Parker, the sales manager at WINL. “This was all New Era’s idea, but we gladly hopped on board.”
