The Demopolis Public Library received a $1,200 grant through the Black Belt Foundation that will enable it to partner with Demopolis High School’s theater department.
“We’re going to try to get materials for Story Time at the library,” said library director Morgan Grimes. “We want to expand our Story Time for the fall and have the students get involved.
“This past year, they came and did a few Story Times with us. This grant will help provide costumes and props and actual scripts, and the students will come in and do impromptu plays and get the kids involved with theater. We’re really looking forward to that!”
The library will also host a book-signing by Greensboro author Jaye Murphy on Saturday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to noon in the meeting room.
Copies of her books will cost $12, and she will do some reading of her poetry.
The library will sponsor a genealogy program on Saturday, June 26.
“Nancy Dupree from the state archives is coming, and she’s going to do a program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.,” said Grimes. “We ask people to sign up for the program so we can have a head count.
“She’s going to show people how to begin the genealogy research process and tell them what the state archives offer and take questions from the audience. It’ll be great for anyone who wants to do genealogy research or who wants to get started.”
Those who want to take part in the genealogy program should call the library at 289-1595.
