Auxiliary members honored for service

The Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary recognized 10 of the organization’s members with awards for hours of service last month.
Receiving patches for 50 hours of service were Laura Reeves-Hutchison and Freddy Rutledge. The pair has been active in the Auxiliary since joining the group last year.
Two members, Dewana Ballard and Carol Bell, received pins for 150 hours of service. They both joined the Auxiliary in June 2009. Ballard coordinated the successful corporate wreath sponsorship portion of the Auxiliary’s Love Lights campaign last Christmas, and Bell is in charge of the June 14 United Blood Services blood drive at the Demopolis Civic Center.
Carol Glass, a member of the Auxiliary since April 10, 2008, received a 500-hour bar. This past April, she received the President’s Volunteer Service Bronze Award for donating 131 hours of service in calendar year 2009.
Ruth Levitz, a member since Aug. 9, 2007, received a 1,000-hour bar during the meeting. Since joining the group, she has been active in the gift shop and has helped to coordinate the successful Love Lights program for the past two years. In 2008, she received a President’s Volunteer Service Gold Award in recognition of her hours of service. This past year, she received a Silver Award.
BWWMH Auxiliary treasurer Biboo Webb received a 2,000-hour bar during the quarterly awards ceremony. Webb, a member since Sept. 11, 2008, received the Presidents Volunteer Service Bronze Award in 2008 and received the Silver Award in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. She is currently in her fourth term as treasurer.
Receiving a 3,500-hour bar for hours of service was Betty Baxley. A valued member of the group who has held many different offices since joining on Nov. 13, 1990, Baxley received the President’s Volunteer Service Bronze Award in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009. In 2006, she received the Silver Award. In 2001, she was selected as the local group’s Volunteer of the Year. During her tenure as an Auxiliary member, Baxley has served one term as treasurer, three terms as secretary and four terms as vice president. She most recently served as yearbook chairman for the Alabama Council of Hospital Auxiliaries.
Sharon Farst, a member of the Auxiliary since Dec. 11, 1997, received a 5,000-hour bar during the meeting. She has held several local offices during her tenure as a hospital volunteer and currently serves as the chairman of the Alabama Council of Hospital Auxiliaries. In 2000, she was selected as the local group’s Volunteer of the Year. She received the President’s Volunteer Service Bronze Award in 2006 and the Silver Award in 2005, 2007 and 2008. In 2009, she received the Gold Award for 749 hours of service in that calendar year, and she also received the President’s Call to Service award for more than 4,000 hours of service over a lifetime.
