Dorothy Dixon Long

Dorothy Dixon Long, 81, of Demopolis, died June 29 at Parkway Medical Center in Decatur. She was a native of Grimesland, NC and had been a resident of Demopolis since 1969. She was a faithful member of Fairhaven Baptist Church in Demopolis where she served as a Sunday School Teacher.
She was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where she served with the U.S. Women’s Army Corp.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Nettie Dixon and husband, James H. Long Sr. and brother, Dick Dixon.
She is survived by daughters, Susan (Alan) Porter, of Huntsville and Cindy (Gregory) Haynes, of Moulton; son, James H. (Kathy) Long Jr., of Spring Lake, NC; grandchildren, James Matthew (Lindsey) Long, of Atlanta, Jeremy Alan Porter, of Huntsville, Katherine Elizabeth Haynes, of Moulton, Ashley long (Max) Lewin, of Woodstock, Ga. and Jake Emory Porter, of Tyler, Texas; great-grandchildren, Alexander Long and Isla Lewin.
Funeral services will be held July 2 at 10 a.m. at Fairhaven Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Atkins officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes directing.
The family will receive friends at the church from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Burial will follow the church service at Demopolis Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Long, Jeremy Porter, Jake Porter, James Carpenter, Danny Smith and Gwen Etheridge.
