Two local students were recently awarded Trustees Scholarships to attend the University of West Alabama.

These awards, which are based on academic achievement and proven leadership potential, come from the UWA Office of Admissions.

Lauren Atkins of Demopolis received a $14,000 academic scholarship. A Demopolis High School senior, she plans to major in public relations.

JaQuitha LeDuff of Linden received a $10,000 leadership scholarship. A Linden High School senior, LeDuff plans to major in English.

Since 1835, the University of West Alabama has served the west central Alabama area and beyond through educational opportunity, academic research and public outreach.
