Kristin Beach has had a remarkable week. Between the area tournament and South Central Regional, the Demopolis High second baseman stroked a clean .414 out of the Tigers’ cleanup spot.
However, more impressive is what she did while producing at that clip. Regarded by her teammates as one of the squad’s standout leaders, the sophomore seemed to come up with every big hit the Tigers’ needed just when they needed it.
Her eight-game stretch saw her blast six doubles, swipe six bases, score eight runs and produce four RBIs to help propel Demopolis to the 5A, Area 5 championship and ultimately to within two victories of a berth in the state tournament.
But what is most notable about Beach is the manner in which she goes about her business.
During a rash of early-season injuries and illnesses, Beach was one of the few constant’s that kept the Demopolis softball team afloat. And in 2010, she figures to be one of the big reasons the unit will make that long-postponed trip to the state tournament.
