Westside Elementary School principal Connie Brown wanted to show her appreciation to those who gave their time and talents to help the school, so she invited them to a luncheon at the school in their honor.
The luncheon was held in the WES cafeteria on Tuesday to honor 29 people who have worked to help the school, including Selena Banks, Angie Brock, Dana Burbage, Betty Campbell, Pam Cook, Debra Cross, Lisa Dekle, Amy Ducket, Debbie Dunavant, Hope Etheridge, Catherine Fuqua, Julie Griffith, Sara Parker Hallmark, Van Kelley, Pam McKinley, Joeann Merriweather, Leslie Morrison, Michelle Murdock, Cindy Parker, Jackie Poole, David Snow, Jim Stanford, Jane Watson, Leslie Williams and Heather Wilson.
“Once a year, we recognize our volunteers through the efforts of Tracy Stewart, our community education person,” Brown said. “We try to do something to acknowledge our appreciation for them. Ms. Stewart’s second-grade class made the placemats, and she made magnets to hold the placemats on the refrigerators.”
“We decided to do a volunteer luncheon for all of the ladies and gentlemen who help us throughout the year,” Stewart said. “We could not run Westside without all of the volunteers that we have. We have a lot of parents who run off copies for our teachers, cut for our teachers — basically, do anything that our teachers don’t have time to do in order to enhance the classrooms.”
