After four years of service to Demopolis High School, Dr. Isaac Espy is moving on to a once-in-a-lifetime job in his hometown.

His tenure has shown many achievements, but he would be the first to let it be known that those achievements were made by a team of players with the common goal of making Demopolis High School a special place to get an education.

During Espy’s tenure at DHS, he saw the beginning of the dual enrollment program with Alabama Southern Community College. Because of that, several first-generation college students got a leg up on their collegiate studies and experiences before they graduated from high school. Others got college credit towards earning a college degree a little sooner than would have been possible.

Students had the option of attending ACT camps to improve their scores on that all-important test. Because of that, DHS boasted several scores of 30 or above in the ACT categories.

The crowning achievement for Espy has to be Demopolis High School earning the No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon award last August. Demopolis was one of three high schools in Alabama and 53 nationwide to earn that achievement.

Espy, along with the faculty, staff, school board and students he worked with and for all combined to bring Demopolis High School to the level it is at today.

We think it is no coincidence that these achievements were done on Dr. Espy’s watch.

We take this time to not only praise Dr. Espy for all he has done with Demopolis High School, but also to wish him well in his future endeavors. He has said that Demopolis is a special place, and he will take a part of it with him to Tuscaloosa. he will also leave a part of him at Demopolis High School.
