The Birmingham News and al.com reported Wednesday that Demopolis Superintendent of Education Dr. L. Wayne Vickers was one of five candidates for an opening with the Leeds City School System. Vickers said Wednesday afternoon he is not a candidate.
“I have taken my name out of consideration,” he said.
Vickers said he thought he was going to be contacted by the Leeds system prior to Tuesday night’s meeting if he had made the final cut of candidates but he never received the call.
“I thought they would call to notify me if I was a final candidate and I intended to remove myself at that time,” he said. “I didn’t receive that call but I have taken my name out of the running as of today.”
Vickers interviewed with officials at Saraland in Mobile County Tuesday.
