After suffering a defeat in Butler Wednesday night, the Demopolis 10U all-star team came back with a strong effort against Greensboro Thursday evening.
Taking advantage of some of its own good fielding and errors from the other team, Demopolis was able to defeat Greensboro 15-1 in four innings.
“We didn’t have any errors this game. We said from the start the key to winning these ballgames was limiting mistakes and we were able to do that today,” said head coach Scott Parten.
In a game that almost mirrored its counter-part across the Sports-Plex, Demopolis was able to jump out to an early lead in the first and never look back. The 10U squad was able to rack up 10 hits throughout the game.
“We had a close loss last night, but the kids didn’t get their heads down. They came out here and played good baseball” said Parten.
R.J. Cox and Ryan Morrison combined for 7 strikeouts, each spending two innings on the mound.
Cox also led the team in hits along with Robert Tutt. Each boy was able to rack up two base knocks in the contest.
As the team moves into single elimination tournament play, it will be the No. 1 seed. As such, Demopolis gets the chance to play Butler again.
“Well, we get our chance at getting one back from them. This time we are the home team, so we hope we can use that to our advantage” said Parten.
The team will need to continue to play solid baseball in order to have the right to come back to Demopolis and play for the District 10 title at the Sports-Plex Monday night.
The 10U team will be playing at 1 p.m. in Butler today.
