Schoolfest, the annual fund-raising event benefiting the Demopolis City Schools Foundation, will hold its 2011 version on Friday, May 6.
Each of the four Demopolis City Schools campuses will hold age-appropriate field-day events for students.
A special t-shirt, designed by Demopolis High senior Mary Riffe, is being offered to students, teachers and volunteers as part of the festivities.
All proceeds from Schoolfest will be returned to the schools in the fall in the form of grants to teachers, the primary program of the Foundation. Since 1994 Schoolfest has raised more than $300,000. In return, the Foundation has awarded more than $806,000 in grants to teachers for projects, programs and equipment the Demopolis City School system cannot fund.
Westside will have a variety of popular activities returning this year for its pre-K-2 students. Inflatable rides, hay rides, bubble-blowing, face-painting and watercolors will be among the events.
At U.S. Jones, plans are to have an obstacle course, karaoke, golf cart rides, egg toss, and relay races as well as other activities for students in grades 3-5.
Similar events are planned at Demopolis Middle School, and the high school in the past has contributed the gate receipts from a performance of one of the theater productions.
