The Demopolis Youth Football Association will begin gearing up for the season with the second annual Demopolis High Youth Football Camp.

The event will be run by DHS head coach Tom Causey, the rest of his Tiger staff and a few of the high school players.

“Last year it was our first year. We had about 75 kids show up for the camp. This year we are hoping to see that number grow to over 100,” said Mark McVay, president of the DYFA.

The camp will allow players from the ages of 7-12 to get individual training with coaches at their particular positions.

The kids will begin at 8 a.m. and split into separate groups, where they will receive specific instructions from each position coach.

The high school players will be on hand to show the kids the correct way to perform each drill that they are taught.

“This camp will provide good instruction for those that want to play football,” McVay said.

The children who attend the camp will need to wear proper attire for the event itself. Shorts, T-shirts and cleats (if available) should be worn and campers should have lots of energy to spare.

The camp will provide an opportunity for younger aged kids to learn basic techniques and fundamentals while providing the older kids a look at what will be ahead if they choose to continue in their playing careers.

“This camp will allow kids to see what will be expected of them if they choose to play now or to wait until they get to middle school or high school,” said McVay.

Those that are interested in signing up can do so at Omni Sports.

The cost is $20 and a camp T-shirt will be included in the cost.

Sign-ups for the fall league will be available at the camp for those participants that are ready to register for play.
