Marengo Academy (14-4) picked up a 15-5 win over Sumter Academy Tuesday in a makeup from a previously rained out game.

The Longhorns saw Justin Beverly toss a complete game, three-hitter to pick up the win in the contest.

Matt Etheridge went 1-for-4 with a triple in the game. Kevin Pritchett was 1-for-3. Mason Rogers went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Trevor Johnson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Matt Wallace was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Jacob Dunn went 1-for-2. Jamey Clements was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Beverly went 1-for-2 in the game.

The win followed a weekend tournament at Macon-East Montgomery Academy in which the Longhorns went 4-1 and took the tourney championship.

The Longhorns opened the bracket with a 9-7 loss to Autuaga Academy. Wallace struck out 10 batters over six innings in the loss.

Etheridge was 2-for-4 at the plate. Rabe Hale went 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Rogers was 2-for-4 with a homerun and a double. Chris Sammons went 1-for-4. Pritchett was 1-for-2 with a double.

The Longhorns then rebounded with an 11-1 defeat of Bessemer Academy. Etheridge scattered three hits and fanned three batters to get the win on the mound. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Hale was 1-for-2. Sammons went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Wallace was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Pritchett went 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBIs.

The Longhorns’ second victory of the tournament saw the team beat Evangel 6-2 behind the pitching effort of Rogers. The sophomore struck out 10 batters and allowed only five hits in the win.

Etheridge was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Hale went 2-for-4. Rogers went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in the game. Wallace went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Marengo moved on to best Greater Gwinnett (Ga.) 8-4 with Dunn picking up the complete game win.

Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double. Sammons was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Wallace went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Dunn went 1-for-2. Jacob Gunter was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Marengo then avenged its only loss of the tournament by taking down Autauga 16-14 in the championship game. Etheridge worked the final two innings to pick up the win in that contest.

Rogers, who won the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award, went 3-for-5 in the game with a double and two RBIs. Sammons was 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Jamey Clements went 2-for-2 with a homerun. Pritchett finished the game at 1-for-4.
