Demopolis High School is rallying the troops to do a little spring cleaning as it readies for its first cleanup day.

The effort will consist of faculty and staff as well as a number of student organizations.

The school is also calling on the help of parents and local community members as it attempts to get its campus in shape.

“We’re going to be cutting grass, weed eating, picking up trash. Just a good, solid cleanup of our campus,” Demopolis High School principal Leon Clark said. “We’re trying to help our maintenance crew get a head start on it.

“It is just going to be a big day to get our campus looking real nice.”

The effort will see the team that assembles at the high school at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 19 undertake everything from trash detail to yard work as it beautifies the campus after a long winter and months of construction work focused around the new fine arts center.

“This is our first year, but I am hoping to make it an annual thing,” Clark said. “We’re inviting parents to be a part of this. We’ve got several of our clubs who are going to be involved.”

Clark said the effort will go until the job is done, but he does not anticipate the task to be a daunting one if enough helping hands show up.

“It should go pretty fast,” he said. “We want to tell people to bring their mowers, weed eaters, gloves, rakes. Come ready to do some fast cleanup.”
