HOF banquet adds events to schedule

The Board for the Marengo County Sports Hall of Fame has announced new attractions in addition to its already packed lineup.
The banquet had already been scheduled to include the recognition of five new inductees at the banquet in Demopolis on Feb. 21, the awarding of a scholarship to a young athlete from Sweet Water, the recognition of the 1960 state 1A champion football team from Thomaston and reintroduction of past Hall of Fame inductees.
The event will now recognize the college football scholarship signees from Demopolis, Sweet Water, Linden and John Essex.
Additionally, there will also be Hall of Fame certificates presented to head coach Stacy Luker from Sweet Water and Tom Causey from Demopolis for winning the 2010 Class 1A State Championship and the 2010 Class 5A Region Three title respectively.
Tickets are $25 each and must be purchased in advance for the gala event and the outstanding meal catered by Napoleon’s. Tom Boggs, Tony Speegle, Colony Office Products and several area banks still have a few tickets on hand. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Demopolis Civic Center.
