Every good school system has a good base of support. For the Demopolis City Schools system, a good part of that support comes from the Demopolis City Schools Foundation Inc. The DCSF was begun in the summer of 1993 as a non-profit, private organization.
“We usually have a membership drive in the spring, but we take new members all year long,” said DCSF executive director Jan McDonald.
The DCSF board of directors established a Grant Endowment Fund, which now totals $550,000. The principal of the endowment is never touched, and interest on the funds is pooled with money from other projects to provide for the grants. The organization has funded more than $756,000 in grants to the schools in its 16-year history.
While there are many different levels of giving, membership in the Demopolis City Schools Foundation is $30 per year.
