DPD accident reports go digital

Obtaining a copy of an accident report has never been easier as the Demopolis Police Department now offers this task online.
As of Jan. 18 the reports are available to individuals who log on to www.policereports.us and can provide the following information: date of accident, case number and driver’s last name. The cost for an electronic version of the report is $9, with $5 of each report going to the department.
“A portion of the charge goes to PoliceReports.us, a contractor that hosts the reports online,” said DPD Chief Tommie Reese. “The Police Department records management software does not have the capability. The other $5 goes to the City of Demopolis.”
The cost of a report obtained directly from the department is $5, however said once you factor in the time involved in obtaining it in-person, Reese said many will see the additional $4 as a convenience fee wisely invested.
In addition, most reports with information that people need for insurance claims can be downloaded using this system.
Any accident report that occurred after Dec. 1, 2010 will be online, but any reports prior to that date will have to be picked up at the Police Department to or requested by mail.
