Bates wins sheriff’ race; Sparks takes county but loses state

With all 27 Marengo County precincts reporting, Democrat Richard Bates has defeated Republican Bobby Duke in the race for Marengo County Sheriff. Bates logged 5080 votes for 57 percent of the popular vote compared to Duke, who mustered 3784 votes for 43%.
Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Ron Sparks took Marengo County from Republican opposition Dr. Robert Bentley but is being thrashed statewide. Earlier this evening the Associated Press declared Bentley the statewide winner.
