Halloween moved to Saturday

Trick-or-Treaters heading out later this month in search of candy may want to circle their calendars.
Halloween will be observed Saturday, Oct. 30 this year in the City of Demopolis.
The move, made by action of the city council Thursday night, formally asks parents and children to begin their search of candy Saturday, leaving Sunday, Oct. 31 to traditions of the Sabbath.
Mayor Mike Grayson said the moving of the date was somewhat traditional when Halloween falls on a Sunday.
“A lot of cities do it, and (Demopolis) has done it in the past,” he said. “Churches have their events planned and moving it gets it off of a school night.”
Linden’s ghouls and goblins will observe Halloween Sunday, Oct. 31.
“My biggest reason would be that’s what it says on the calendar and because Linden Baptist Church is having their trunk-or-treat on Sunday night and they are encouraging everybody to come out and that is a really safe way for kids to trick-or-treat,” Gates said after the council voted unanimously to keep the holiday observance on its scheduled date.
