The Demopolis Area Chamber’s Christmas on the River was an overwhelming success as events culminated with the Day Parade and Night Parade on Saturday.
“We are excited for the 53rd annual Christmas on the River,” DACC chamber director Monica King said before the event. “There has been a lot of work put in by the chamber members and volunteers to make this year’s event be a big success.”
Whitfield Regional Medical Center introduced Ashley Bates as the Special Child for this year’s Christmas On The River. She also helped light the Love Light Tree Wednesday, Dec. 4.
On Thursday, the chamber will have the lighting of the public square. St. Nick was introduced as Kayte Kayte Melton.
On Friday, the Alabama State Championship BBQ Cook-Off was held at George Franks Field.
Christmas in the Canebrake, the Gaineswood Candlelight Tour along with the Glitter & Glow at the Cedars and a tour of the Whitfield farmhouse at the Cedars.
On Saturday, Dec. 7, the public fair brought a huge crowd to the square. Then at 11:30 a.m., the day parade traveled down Walnut and Strawberry avenues north of Pettus Street. All of the Christmas on the River queens rode in the parade. Numerous businesses and organizations had floats for the parade, and several marching bands including the Demopolis High School band performed.
The event culminated with the Nautical Parade & Fireworks Show on the Tombigbee River and Lake Demopolis.
