The Sweet Water Bulldogs treated their trip to Tanner in North Alabama like a business trip.

Once the team got off the bus, they handled their business claiming a 41-0 lead.

The win improves the Bulldogs to 8-2 on the season and heads into the playoffs with the No. 2 overall seed in Class 1A, Region 1.

Head coach Pat Thompson wasn’t shocked by the result of Friday’s game, but he was still thrilled to see his team handle their business.

“I was just really impressed with how we handled our long road trip and took care of our opponent,” Thompson said. “It wasn’t a surprise that they did it, but it is still satisfying as a coach to see them do what they’re supposed to do.”

Thompson didn’t single out one player who had an outstanding performance because of how well the team played overall.

“This was a true team win,” Thompson said. “We had six different guys who scored a touchdown. And our defense played really well. We held them to negative-three total yards. I really believe our defense has really improved a lot since the beginning of the season. I am very proud of them for how far they have come this season.”

Choctaw County (5-4) at Sweet Water (8-2)

Thompson’s goal this week is to focus on their first-round matchup against the Tigers, the No. 3 seed from Class 1A, Region 3.

“We can’t focus on anything else this week,” Thompson said. “We could easily be one-and-done if we don’t focus on Choctaw County.”

Thompson said the Tigers are about like they are every year.

“They are big and physical up front,” Thompson said. “We will have to be ready for them this week.”

Choctaw County earned wins over Sumter Central (40-24), Marion (14-6), Pickens Academy (36-8), Holy Spirit (32-11) and Hatch (31-12). The Tigers’ losses came from Linden (42-0), Southern Choctaw (29-0), Cottage Hill Christian Academy (41-0) and University Charter (16-0).
