Sax in the City, an outdoor concert series, will host Mayes2 Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. in Public Square in downtown Demopolis.

This musical duo will play Jazz, Classical and New Orleans style music. The concert is offered free of charge and everyone is invited to bring their lawn chairs and picnic baskets and attend.

Sax in the City is an outdoor concert series that is sponsored by the Two Rivers Arts Council and the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce. Concerts cover all genres of music and are meant to provide entertainment, exposure and activity for the residents of Demopolis and the surrounding areas.

Mayes2, Frank and Cindy Mayes, are woodwind doublers who perform music on flutes, clarinet, oboe, saxophones, vocals and keyboards.

“Like the rich gumbo for which New Orleans in known, we mix our instrumental sounds and styles to form a multi ‘taste-ual’ experience,” their website describes. “We like to call it ‘Nouveaux Grooveaux.”

Frank Mayes has performed or recorded with artists such as the Beach Boys, The Supremes, Jerry Reed and many others.

Cindy Mayes has performed or recoded with artists Martha Reeves & the Vandellas, Ray Charles, Lou Rawls and many more.
