Dorothy (Dot) Baker Ayres, 81, a lifelong resident of Demopolis, passed away on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Dot was born March 27, 1943 in Gallion, the daughter of William Spencer Baker and Modean Davis Baker. Dot worked with Robertson Banking Company and retired as assistant vice president in 2008 after a career of 47 years. Dot especially loved her family as she spoke about them often. She was known to all as “Granny Dot.” She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and any home repair project. Dot was a member of Fairhaven Baptist Church.

Dixon (Jim); grandchildren, Mallie Quarles (Tony), Will Ayres (Ryan), Meredith Stocks (Max)

and Logan Gills; great-grandchildren, Ella Quarles, Alle Quarles, Anna Claire Quarles, Toni

Quarles, William Ayres, Eliza Ayres and Dawson Tingle; brothers, J. D. Baker, W. S. (Bill)

Baker (Janelle), Mike Baker (Nikki); sisters Betty Hatter (Paul), Sue Allen and Beverly

Meadors (Dwight); and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Dot was preceded in death by husband, Richard (Rick) Ayres; sister, Peggy Stephens; brother, Randy Baker; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024 at 11 o’clock at Fairhaven Baptist Church, 1504 Cardinal Street, Demopolis. Interment follows at Demopolis Memorial Gardens, 2420 U.S. Highway 43 South, Demopolis.

Serving as pallbearers were Max Stocks, Tony Quarles, Robbie Gills, Jason Arledge, Chris

Allen and Cade Baker. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Archie Hooper, Dr. Keith Dismukes,

caregiver, Erica Taylor and employees of Aveanna Hospice.
