Demopolis (1-3, 0-2) opened its region schedule with a pair of losses this week, falling to Greenville in four games Monday and to Selma in five games Tuesday.
“We are going to have to work on conditioning in order to be able to last,” Demopolis coach Blythe Martin said.
The Lady Tigers dropped the first two games to Greenville Monday, losing 25-11 and 25-21 at home. DHS rallied back in game three to pull a 25-22 win before Greenville snuffed the charge in game four with a 25-17 win.
The Lady Tigers fell behind early Tuesday, losing game one 25-13 before rallying to consecutive 25-17 and 25-21 wins that forced a game four. In that contest, Selma pulled out a 26-24 victory before going on to a 15-11 win in game five.
“They have learned to rally back. My girls don’t quit,” Martin said. “It would make the difference between winning and losing a match if we did not get off to such a slow start.”
Despite the struggles, the Lady Tigers did improve their play in certain key areas.
“We found the net,” Martin said. “But now we need dto work on filling in our back row defense.”
The Lady Tigers will play again Sept. 9 when they host Selma in a region game scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
