The Demopolis City Council on Thursday appointed two new members to the city’s planning commission.
Mayor Woody Collins recommended Hugh Overmyer and Tommie Reese be named to the planning commission. The city council accepted those nominations and unanimously approved both.
The openings came about as longtime board members Bill Barley and Alex Roberson terms expired. Collins said both have served the city well in their roles.
“They have done a great job and we appreciate their dedication to helping our city through their hard work,” he said. “I would say they have done yeoman’s work.”
The change will take effect on Oct. 1.
In other action from the meeting, the council:
- Approved West Alabama Public Transportation requesting abatement on the building permit fee. Collins said they were asking for a $10,000 abatement.
- Approved Resolution 2024-07 for airport improvement.
- Approved public assembly requests for
