This year’s Freedom on the River is going to be a special one for Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce director Monica King.
It will be her first as chamber director, and she is excited to be a part of such an exciting event in the community.
“I am really looking forward to it,” King said. “I’m just hoping that we will have a great crowd come out to the City Landing and to see lots of families out here.”
Freedom on the River will begin at 5 p.m. at the City Landing as food vendors will be opening up, and there will be water slides and foam machines for the kids. And for everyone else, there will be other arts and crafts for the kids.
The entertainment will kick off at 6 p.m. as White Bluff Association will perform throughout the night. In the middle of the entertainment portion will be the Children’s Parade. Those who wish to participate need to arrive by 6:30 p.m. for the parade registration. Then the parade begins at 7 p.m., as children will parade around the park with their wagons and other floats decorated for the patriotic event.
Then at 8:30 p.m., the event reaches its climax with the fireworks show.
King said there is more parking available than during Christmas on the River, but there will be areas marked off for no parking by security.
“We’re looking forward to a great event celebrating our country’s independence,” King said.
