Cuba man dies in Saturday night crash

A 48-year-old man has died after his vehicle hit a fallen tree on Wire Road 1 in Cuba, left the roadway and struck a second tree, causing his the car to overturn.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency identified the victim as Orlando Artis, 48, of Cuba. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The crash occurred at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, April 28. ALEA stayed in a press release that Artis was driving a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville when it struck a fallen tree that was laying in the roadway. After the initial collision, the car left the roadway, struck a second tree and overturned.
The police report indicated that Artis was not using a seat belt at the time of crash. The crash occurred on Wire Road 1 near Beaver Drive, approximately one mile south of Cuba, in Sumter County.
Nothing other information was available as the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate.
