The Marengo County Sheriff’s office has arrested a man in connection with a Monday evening shooting in Gallion.
Around 5 p.m. April 1, Sheriff’s officers arrested Bernard Walker, 73 on three counts of attempted murder and three counts of reckless endangerment. Walker’s arrest stemmed from a shooting at 32468 Highway 43 in Gallion.
The Demopolis Police Department (DPD) made first contact, responding to a 911-call around 4 p.m. The call reported three people had been shot at the Gallion residence.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers apprehended Walker in a traffic stop.
According to Marengo County Sheriff Robert Alston, DPD officers proceeded to the residence and began working the crime scene.
“DPD went to the residence where they secured the scene and began processing it,” Alston said. “The Sheriff’s Office took the lead on the case due to the location of the residence.”
Alston said three adult victims were shot, and three juvenile victims were present but unharmed during the incident.
Whitfield Regional Hospital was placed on lockdown when the shooting victim arrived for treatment.
Demopolis Police Chief Rex Flowers said his department assisted the Marengo County Sheriff’s office during the lockdown. He explained that a lockdown for safety is standard protocol when a shooting victim is transported to a facility for medical care.
“We assisted the Sheriff’s department on the shooting,” Flowers said. “[First responders] brought the people to the hospital and we assisted them there with locking down the hospital.”
Alston said he could not release the identity of the victims at this time.
Investigators with the Marengo County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the shooting. No further information is available.
