Terrance “Ted” Marshall was born in Butler to Clarence and Odessia Marshall who had five children, Gerald, Ted, Torrie, Tab, and Demetrius. He along with his brothers and sisters grew up in Putnam before the family moved to Nanafalia. Marshall attended Sweet Water High School where he excelled in football and baseball until his graduation in 1990. 

While playing football for Coach Nolan Atkins (MCSHOF 2009), Marshall earned four varsity letters. and helped the Bulldogs defeat Courtland 26-14 to become the “1986 1A-State Champions.”

Marshall earned five varsity letters in baseball while playing two years (1986-1987) for Coach Randy Smith (MCSHOF 2016) and three years (1988-90) for Coach Nolan Atkins. His talent was really on display when he was on the mound. He led the baseball team to four state championships in two different classifications. Sweet Water High School won two state titles in the 1A classification defeating Hale County (7-6, 11-1) to earn the title “1986 1A-State Champions” and two years later defeated Hale County again (15-0,6-5) to become the “1988 1A-State Champions.” The next year, Sweet Water High School moved up to the 2A classification where Marshall led the Bulldogs back to the playoffs and earned the title “1989 2A-State Champions” defeating Cordova (5-2, 6-9, 8-3). His senior year, he again took the mound and led the Bulldogs back to the state title game defeating Springville (12-8, 10-0) to be named the “1990 2A-State Champions.” 

During his pitching career for the Sweet Water Bulldogs, he had a 25-game winning streak over a two-year period. His career record was an impressive 34-4. He ended his high school career in 1990 with 11 victories and 3 saves with a 0.96 ERA. Marshall struck out 157 batters in 80 innings for a ratio of 1.96 strikeouts, an average of two strikeouts per inning and was named the “1990 2A-Player of the Year.” 

Marshall was drafted out of high school in 1990 by the Chicago White Sox in the 22 round and was assigned to the Gulf Coast League in Sarasota, Florida. He played two years earning a 2-1 record with one save in his first year and 4-2 his second. The next year he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers and assigned to the Pioneer League in Helena, Montana. Marshall compiled a 3-2 record with one save. Marshall’s career record was 9-5 with 2 saves with a 3.15 ERA.

After his pro career, he made the decision to attend college and graduated from Delta College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1999. He continued to make a career out of baseball managing Hardball Instruction as an Area Scout and Instructor for Global Scouting developing players with the potential of being drafted or earning a college scholarship. 

After college he stayed in Baton Rouge and worked for the Louisiana State Blind School while working part time at the recreation department for the city where he coached the RBI baseball program for a period of nine years. He left Baton Rouge and moved to Dallas to work with MCI as an engineer. His work moved him to Huston where he continued to work as an engineer while also working with Time Warner. He opened his own baseball facility in addition to working security details while also continuing to coach recreational summer league baseball.  

When the opportunity presented itself for him to move back to Alabama, he moved back home to Nanafalia where he currently resides. When he is not coaching the Pelican Showcase baseball team, Ted and wife Lauren are involved with their children, T. J. Marshall Jr., Brianna Marshall, Olivia Blakeney, Violet Blakeney and Willow Blakeney.
