Demopolis Area Habitat for Humanity is bringing Self-Help Housing to Marengo County. Self-Help Housing is for people with low to very low income. USDA Rural Development offers qualifying individuals and families the opportunity to build a new single-family home with no money down. These homes are 2-, 3- or 4-bedrooms.
“We are very excited about bringing SHH to Marengo County. SHH is a lot like Demopolis Area Habitat for Humanity. The individuals or families that are approved get to work on their own home with their family and/or friends along with their neighbors,” said Terrie Charleston. “We will be building at least six homes at once. When we finish with those six homes, we will start on six more. This will continue until the program is finished. We are hoping that this program will last a long time in Marengo County.”
On Jan. 20 at 10 a.m., the SHH will hold an application drive.
“We are looking forward to seeing everyone who is interested in becoming a homeowner come out to Christian Chapel Baptist Church Life Center and put in their application,” said Charleston.
