The Linden City Council declared January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month in Linden at its Jan. 2 meeting.

Mayor Gwendolyn Rogers said the purpose of towns and cities adopting the proclamations is to make more people aware that it is a problem.

“We need to watch out for it and make sure it is not happening in our city. If you see something, say something,” said Rogers.

The Council unanimously voted to adopt the proclamation.

Rogers also expressed her appreciation for all the sponsors and volunteers who helped make Chilly Fest a success.

“Everything went extremely well. We had great participation, and everyone worked hard to pull this together,” said Rogers.

Rogers said there were too many people to name, but she thanked everyone who helped build floats and take them apart, set up for the 5K walk, and clean up afterwards. Fundraising for the 2023 Chilly Fest went well, and Rogers said she is looking forward to the 2024 celebration.

“It is a big undertaking and involves a lot of volunteer hours. I thank everyone for any parts they played in that undertaking,” said Rogers.
