The Linden City School system has received $1.1 million from the Alabama K-12 Capital Grant Program. Superintendent Dr. Timothy Thurman said he wrote the grant request to help the system with funding the construction of the new high school building.

The office of Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth was charged with facilitating the grant process that was created during the 2023 Legislative Session.

“The grant really helps us in moving forward on the project,” said Thurman.

Under old business, Thurman gave the board an update on the new HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) systems, and a plan for the multipurpose room for Linden Elementary School.

The superintendent said the construction unit is preparing to pour the foundation for the classroom units. He said they are trying to get all the electrical work done before installing the units.

Thurman also said that the school system should receive the plans for the multipurpose room at the elementary school.

In other business the board:

• Approved the financial statements for September and October 2023, and all bank accounts have been reconciled;
• Accepted the letter of resignation of Miakka Taylor from her extracurricular duty as the junior varsity cheer sponsor at George P. Austin Middle School (GPA); and
• Approved Sara Bates as the interim varsity cheer sponsor.

The next meeting of the Linden Board of Education will be Dec. 18 at 4:30 p.m.
