The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles scheduled 70 parole hearings and 28 pardon hearings for the week of Nov. 14 – Nov. 16.

The parole hearing for Marengo County inmate Frederick Larnell Dumas was held Nov. 14. Dumas is serving time for a 2008 conviction and is incarcerated at the Fountain Correctional Center in Atmore. Dumas was convicted for the murder of Eric Rogers on Nov. 25, 2008 and has, so far, served 16 years of a 30 year sentence.

Rodgers was allegedly shot by Dumas on Jun. 30, 2007 after a brief exchange of words with Dumas. Dumas allegedly left and returned to shoot Rodgers with a .25-caliber pistol on the street where both men lived in Magnolia.

The Board voted to deny parole with a reset date of November 2028.

Speaking on behalf of parole was Francesca Dumas (sister) and Delores Hayes (mother). Makayla Phifer of Victims of Crime and Leniency (VOCAL) and Sarah Deneve with the Victims Services Office (VSO, Attorney General’s Office) spoke against Dumas’s parole being denied.

Dumas has a minimum release date of Oct. 24, 2037.
