Whitfield Regional Hospital CEO and Administrator Doug Brewer spoke before the Demopolis City Council and announced that the new emergency room (ER) would be open for patients on Tuesday, Nov. 21. The ER project has been a long time coming, and promises to be a state of the art facility.
The hospital back road is now open to admit patients, and all ambulances and walk-ins can enter the new ER from the back just as was previously done.
“It’s really beautiful,” Brewer said. “We’ve made some changes that we think will impact the quality of care and service. We’ve added a mid level physician’s assistant who will help us triage patients and we’ve created a fast track area in there.”
Brewer said that for safety reasons, signage will be posted out front guiding people to the back entrance.
In other business, the Council approved a request from Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce Director, Monica King, to host the annual Christmas on the River (COTR) celebration. The 2023 COTR celebrations are slated for Nov. 24 – Dec. 2. The celebration will be kicked off with the Lighting of the Tower by Black Warrior Electric.
Other items discussed by the Council included:
- Approving a request from LaTonya Williams for an entertainment district for June 1, 2024 at the Theo Ratliff Activity Center;
- Appointing Margie Jackson to the Library Board;
- Approving an application for a Historic Preservation Designation Plaque; and
- Approving a one-time $100 payroll adjustment for full-time city employees, and $50 for part-time employees.
