Marengo Cattlewomen’s Association hosts Blue Jean Ball

The night of Saturday, Oct. 7 was the start of an annual event called the Blue Jean Ball. Hosted by Marengo County Cattlewomen’s Association (MCCA) the event helps raise funds for the group’s scholarship fund as well as future community events the association plans, such as mini farm tours and agricultural days.
The association was formed last fall when a group of like-minded women joined together to bring awareness to the agricultural industry in Marengo and the surrounding counties.
Through this association, these women have been able to award an academic scholarship to a local graduating senior, Madeline Sealy, and help Adi Jones, a West Alabama native, in her journey to compete in the Miss Agriculture USA pageant.

October is Beef Month in the state of Alabama and the beef cattle business is one of the state’s largest agricultural industries. The MCCA wanted its largest fundraising event of the year to be set in accordance to Gov. Kay Ivey’s proclamation of the emphasis.
Due to the attendance, items donated, and top sponsorships like Alabama Livestock, Harmony Hill Trucking, and Gaddy Electric, and other generous donors, the MCCA were able to raise over $16,000 to serve the people of Marengo County. Agriculture is the industry that drives this region, and members of the MCCA felt it was their responsibility to do everything they could to bring awareness and appreciation to this way of life.
