The Linden City School system has started the process of district accreditation. Linden Elementary School and G.P. Austin Middle School has never been accredited, but Linden High School has been accredited for over 60 years. The school system has been trying to get the process started for over a year.

Superintendent Dr. Timothy Thurman said that the system’s leadership team met with a group from Cognia and have set up a calendar of when everything needs to be submitted. Surveys will also go out to parents and faculty about the district accreditation. The evaluation will be done in February 2024.

“It’s a lot of work, but we have teachers and principals who have committed themselves to getting it done. It’s a great milestone to have district accreditation,” said Thurman.

Under new business, Thurman, on behalf of the Alabama Association of School Boards, recognized the board members Dorothy Gamble, Mitzi Gates, Glenda Hayes, and Ola Ford who met their required six hours of training for board and governance. Thurman also had plaques for Academy Achievements.

Other items approved at the meeting include:

• Approved of the 2023-2024 school year salary schedule
• Approved of Special Education teacher supplements for the 2023-2024 school year in the amount of $1,000
• Agreed to pay a one-time signing bonus to Tratina Landrum, Special Ed teacher at GPA, app

Agreed to allow AASB to proceed with the annual evaluation process for the Superintendent and Chief Schools Financial Officer
