Eutaw man killed in accident near WestRock paper mill

On Thursday, August 3, at approximately 11:20 a.m., two 18-wheelers were involved in a collision near WestRock paper mill on U.S. Hwy 80 West. The crash occurred on U.S. 80 near the 24 mile marker, approximately six miles west of Demopolis in Marengo County.
The accident closed down part of that area for the majority of the afternoon. The road was declared clear just after 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
Corporal Reginal King with ALEA (Alabama Law Enforcement Agency) confirmed one fatality from the accident. The victim was William M. Lancaster, 69, of Eutaw, AL.
Lancaster was fatally injured when the 2011 Freightliner tractor-trailer he was driving struck the trailer of the 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by James E. Bowden Jr., 42, of Livingston. Lancaster was pronounced deceased at the scene. Bowden was injured and transported to Whitfield Regional Hospital in Demopolis.
No further information is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
