New River City Soul restaurant opens in Demopolis

A new restaurant has opened in Demopolis that promises to offer a unique dining experience with classic soul food dishes. River City Soul opened its doors for business this past Saturday, May 6 with a grand opening ceremony attended by a fairly large crowd. The new eatery is located 1621 Hwy. 43 South where Kora’s Place formerly operated.
Owner Tommie Reese opened the brief ceremony by stating that opening a restraint was “a dream come true.”
“River City Soul to the City of Demopolis. We are so happy to be here,” said Reese. “We thank Pastor Harris and Mrs. Kora for allowing us to have this building. We couldn’t have done it without them.”
Mayor Pro-Tem Charles Jones Jr. provided the welcome and touched on the importance of having places where people can relax and socialize.
“Covid-19 taught us some things. It ruined some things and it taught us some things. We had ZOOM, Facebook, and FaceTime, but there was a missing component. And that was the social component of being face to face,” said Jones. “A restaurant like this is much needed in Demopolis. A restaurant that we can all go to where we know the owner is dedicated to Demopolis. So on behalf of the City of Demopolis, the City Council, and Mayor Woody Collins, thank you for your investment and commitment to Demopolis.”
River City Soul features lunch and dinner menus with a large variety of choices. The restaurant is open on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and features a menu for each day. Visitors can expect fried pork chops, baked or fried chicken, dressing, turkey wings, turnip greens, candied yams, catfish and shrimp, and even good old fashioned oxtails available only on Sundays.
River City Soul now occupies what used to be Kora’s Place at 1621 Hwy. 43 South.
River City Soul is open Monday, Thursday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., dinner hours are 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Monday. Operating hours for Sunday are 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Tuesday and Wednesdays.
