Body found in water near West Jackson Street

On Tuesday, September 6, 2022, the Demopolis Police Department received a call of a body in the water near the Jackson Street Bridge. The body was found by a railroad worker around 1:00 p.m.
The Demopolis Fire Department, Amstar Medical Services, and the Marengo County Coroner’s Office responded. The body was recovered from the water and sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for positive identification as well as determination of the cause of death.
Demopolis Police Chief Rex Flowers said there is an active investigation and that any charges will depend on the results of the autopsy.
Flowers hopes to have the preliminary results of the autopsy back by the end of the week or the beginning of next week.
