LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama football team tallied 478 yards of total offense in a 33-0 win over the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The shutout was the first over a Gulf South Conference opponent since UWA (5-3, 3-2 GSC) blanked Delta State 10-0 in 1979. The shutout is the first for the Tigers since a 65-0 blanking of Concordia in 2006, the first game under Head Coach Bobby Wallace.

It marks the first time UAM (3-5, 2-3 GSC) has been shutout since falling 53-0 to Delta State in 2006.

UWA struck first marching 68 yards in its first drive to take a 7-0 lead. The drive was capped by a four yard pass play from Deon Williams to Jason Hawkins. A 24-yard field goal by Brock Sharp lifted the Tigers to a 10-0 lead with 5:25 remaining in the first half. The field goal was Sharp’s third of the season and capped a nine play, 60 yard drive that took 2:47 off the clock.

Sharp placed the Red and White up 13-0 with 8:46 remaining in the third quarter with a 44 yard field. The 44 yard field goal, a career-long for the Okemos, Mich.-native, completed a seven play, 62 yard drive that took 2:09 off the clock. Dameon Baylor, who rushed for 100 yards on the night, capped a 14 play, 95 yard drive with a four yard run, putting UWA up 19-0 with 11:23 remaining in the game.

UWA pushed the lead out to 26-0 as Shontral Ford returned an interception 99 yards for a TD. Williams added his second score of the game, this time on the ground, as he carried the ball in from two yards out. The score was set up by a 38 yard rush by Baylor.

DeAntuan Matthews led the Red and White defense with 7.5 tackles, including a sack and four tackles for loss. Brandon Walker and J. D. Douglas added 6.5 stops each in the game.

West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 24 as UWA travels to Carrollton, Ga. to face West Georgia in GSC play. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. The game will be aired on FOX Sports, WSLY 104.9-FM and at athletics.uwa.edu.
