In its short meeting last Thursday, March 17, the Demopolis City Council approved two projects that will be funded by the American Rescue Plan.
The first project will be to install a covered culvert on North Cedar Street and will cost around $170,000. The second project will be dredging a ditch behind CVS up to DHS at an estimated cost of $370,000.
Doug Brewer, Whitfield Regional Hospital CEO/Administrator, announced that the private road behind the hospital began last Friday, March 18 and will not open again for some time. The road runs from Walnut to Cedar streets. The road will be used by contractors while the emergency department undergoes renovations. Ambulances will use Cedar Street as an entrance until the outpatient entrance is opened as a temporary emergency department.
The Demopolis City Council meets on the first and third Thursdays of every month. The public is invited to attend.
