The Demopolis City Council’s first meeting of the year on Jan. 6 was a short one with only one item to approve on its agenda.
The lone item for the council to re-approve a resolution from a previous meeting in December. The resolution in question was in request by Mem Webb to vacate the northern portion of Desnouettes Street. The first resolution did not include a map of the vacated area, and the Council approved the new resolution.
Project manager Mike Baker reported that there are six drainage problems being evaluated for cost. Baker expects to have a report for the next meeting.
Parks and Recreation director Walker Reynolds gave an update on construction of the City landing. Reynolds said work has resumed pouring concrete for the boat ramp. The concrete needs to be poured before paving the parking lot. Reynolds also said that when the weather permits, work will begin on the floating dock and pylons will be driven into the riverbed. Reynolds hopes the boat landing will be completed by late March or early April.
The Demopolis City Council meets on the first and third Thursday of every month at 5:15 p.m.
