At the April 6 Linden City Council meeting, the council took a resident request for additional lighting on Cahaba Road under consideration. Cahaba Road is located between Boggs Street and East Coats Avenue.
Linden Police Chief Robert Alston, Jr said that a resident approached him and asked about getting a new street light installed in the area as the road is very dark at night. Alston said that he checked out the area and agrees that the area is quite dark.
Mayor Gwendolyn Rogers agreed to call Alabama Power to get a price on installing new street lights. The topic will be revisited at the April 20 council meeting.
Linden Board of Education member Ola Ford said she had received the resignation letter from board member Xonome Bryant and asked the council to allow Lillie Tate to serve the remainder of Bryant’s term until her own term begins. The Linden BOE appointed Tate to serve in place of Bryant at its March 9 meeting.
The council voted unanimously to approve the request.
The council voted to allow a youth sports team access to a field in Scott Park. The team is from Demopolis, and Council member Jan Cannon said that the coach could not find an available field in Demopolis.
Under Education and Nursing Home, Council member Byron Vice reported that the Marengo County Nursing Home Board had recently held its first in-person meeting since March 2020. Meetings will resume at Linden United Methodist Church in the fellowship hall.
Vice also announced a vacancy on the Nursing Home board. Further discussions on the new appointment will be during the next council meeting.
Board Secretary Bruce Ward reminded the council that a decision needs to be made on whether the city will hold its annual Chilly Fest event in December. Last year’s event was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The next Linden City Council meeting will be Tuesday, April 20, at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
