The city of Demopolis marked its 10th annual Freedom on the River festival on Sunday, with a tremendous turnout, thanks to clear skies and fairly low humidity.
The children’s patriotic parade got under way at 7 p.m. with a large number of participants. Winners in each of the categories were:
Birth to 4 years old: Windham Lee, first place; Reagan Sanford, second, place; and Christopher Sprinkle, third place.
5 to 8 years old: Caleb Parten, first place; Nabia Hall, second place; and Taylor Weeks, third place.
9 to 12 years old: Nelson Haskins, first place; Victoria Belcher, second place; and Amari Ransom and Malik Moore, third place.
Following the parade, festival-goers enjoyed some of the treats provided by the vendors on hand near the city landing.
Then, at 9 p.m., the fireworks show got started, courtesy of Pyro Productions, which has provided the pyrotechnics for the last several Freedom on the River and Christmas on the River festivals.
In August, the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the inaugural Hay Daze festival.
